村で活動させてもらう上で村びとの生活を知ることは重要であると考えます。そのため、コンポントム滞在の内、1泊を村ステイとして村びとの家で過ごさせてもらいます。日本では見かけることのない、木造高床の家での1泊です。どこで靴を脱ぐのか、ご飯を食べる時のマナーはどうか、1つ1つの動作を意識します。普段プロジェクトを行っている時では見えない文化の違いを肌身で感じることができるのです。そしてステイ先のお母さんの手作り家庭料理。カンボジアで食べるどのご飯よりも美味しく温かく感じます。家の周りには街灯がほとんどなく、夜になると真っ暗になるので村びとは寝るのも早いそうです。そんな真っ暗な村から見上げる空はプラネタリウムを凌ぐ星空です。村ステイを経験したメンバーは「あたりが真っ暗なので感動するほど星が綺麗に見えた。いつまでも見ていられる。」と口をそろえます。

夜には、村の子どもたちがカンボジア伝統のデザートを作ってステイ先まで持って来てくれることもあります。日中は私たちのプロジェクトに“参加してもらう”形ですが、村ステイで過ごす時間は、子どもたちの暮らす村に“参加させてもらっている”ことを実感できる貴重な時間です

It is necessary to understand the life of villager because Ju-Ju does activities in village and for village. So we spend a day in a villager’s house during staying in Kampong Thom, and it is called “village stay”. We stay in a wooden-raised floor house which we never see in Japan. We can feel the differences of culture through villager’s behaviors, such as the place where we take off our shoes and manners for dinner. These behaviors can not be seen when we are doing activities. Mother serves us home-made foods, and the taste is much more delicious and warm-hearted than any other dishes in Cambodia.

We could know that villagers go to bed early through village stay. That is because there is no street lamps around their house and it is in completely dark at night. So we can watch beatiful starry sky. Members who experienced village stay all said “I was impressed how beatiful the sky is! We can never watch it in Japan.”

Children who had taken part in our activities in the daytime brought the house where we stay Cambodian traditional dessert for us at night. They help our activities in the daytime, but for village stay, we take part in the village where they live.
